Where I Come From…

My name is Kayla. I grew up as a dancer, dancing in my pjs at the reflection of myself in my backdoor. Always the life of the party for 90’s family gatherings, outdoor concerts and live bands at the ski lodges. From a young age I felt this connection to move my body and treat it as a home.

Just after high school I moved away from home and began to further my passion for an active lifestyle and holistic nutrition. I soon became a personal trainer, working with clients one on one and recognizing that magical moment others felt when they began to feel the positive changes of movement in their life. With that came my real and first true love of food and the realization that food is our medicine. How cool.

Since then I have been wandering around the world furthering my education in the diets and lifestyles that bring pure happiness. I have found the true secret is the ability to notice the beauty of the simplicities that surround you. Yoga and Ayurveda are our tools. Not so long ago I dived into the lifestyle of Yoga and Ayurveda and it was so so confusing. I read endless books, googled every sentence I read and just got back from 3 months in India continuing to try and figure it out (that’s me smiling hard in the midst of chaos, colors and a lot of vegetables.). Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old system that existed when the world was a very different place. We have come so far from living with the laws of nature and we need to relearn how to come back. I want to create a simple platform you can build on so you too get to recognize that magical moment when you feel those positive changes of movement in your life.

“Highly Recommended”

Kayla came highly recommended and I now know why! The beginning of my journey back to yoga has been amazing and with Kayla’s guidance I am now learning about Ayurveda. As a mum of 2 kids under 2, I needed something that I could focus on at my own pace and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing your passion Kayla 🙂 10/10

“Badass Jungle Girl”

I decided to attend a yoga session with Kayla thinking it would be a good way to start the day with an intense workout. Well it was certainly that but what I found was that the first “yoga” class aligned a number of other elements into my daily routine. Breathwork, Movement, Nutrition and most importantly, intention. Kayla has a beautiful way of connecting all of these to help me build and manage my best self everyday. For that, I am exceptionally grateful. On the other hand, if you just want to get your hatha groove on with a badass jungle girl, consider it covered.

Listen to your body, what do you need right now?
Try this recipe with sweet potato to key in on supporting your gut health and improving your vision. Try it with beetroot if you feel more in need of improving your circulation and giving yourself a boost of energy. Let food be your medicine by increasing these ingredients in your overall diet to support a balanced wellbeing.

Tahini Salad- Serves 2

1 cup quinoa
1 sweet potato or beetroot- cubed
3 cups kale- packed
1 inch piece ginger
1 tbsp ghee or high quality oil
2 tbsp tahini
1 avocado
1/2 lemon

Boil water and add quinoa. Cook for 15 minutes or until soft.
Sauté your root vegetable in ghee and ginger for 1 minute than add water in just enough to cover them. Cook until soft about 10-15 minutes.
Meanwhile, wash and chop kale for the salad.
Mix quinoa, sweet potato and kale and dress with tahini.

This recipe is good for all three doshas- vata, pitta and kapha.
Especially pitta as its loaded with healthy fats and a good mix of cooked and raw vegetables.
